Cambridge dictionary defines:
Human (noun): a person
Humanity (noun): understanding and kindness toward other people
We have a big transition coming up on Monday. What I want to share in this post is about being human (a person) and showing your humanity (compassion for all). Each of us has two arms, two legs, two eyes, a nose, etc. No one person is better than another. We all deserve understanding and kindness from each other. Regardless of what may make one person uncomfortable about another, that does not mean they do not deserve compassion.
I always told my children if I could instill three things into them they would be to…
· Be kind
· Be true to yourself
· and be a good citizen to the world
…if I did that then I had done my job as their mother.
I remember during the October 2019 snowstorm in Connecticut, while we waited for the electricity to come back on, my husband and a friend drove firewood to all of our neighbors to make sure everyone had enough wood to keep them warm. We had a tree down at the end of our cul-de-sac and another neighbor on the other side of the tree drove us all to the supermarket so we could buy groceries for those five days.
I think of the pandemic when the entire world went into lockdown. We stood in the streets having conversations so we could have human connection. We checked on our elderly neighbors and made sure everyone had enough toilet paper.
Now, with all the recent extreme weather events, so many communities have been coming together to help with basic needs like food, shelter and clothing. This is the kind of humanity I wish we could see every day for every one. Regardless of our beliefs, religion, or politics, humanity can be the most important thing at the forefront of all of our minds. As we continue to step gently into this new year my hope for us is that we all remember to be kind, allow everyone to be true to themselves, and we can all continue to be good citizens of the world.
With Love, Light and Kindness,
Wendy
